Effective November 1, 1996 the standard government regulated Ontario Automobile Policy was introduced. The compulsory coverage for this policy is as follows:

Third Party liability – The owner of the insured automobile and the driver operating it with the owner’s consent are provided financial protection for legal liability for injury to others and damage to the property of others arising out of the ownership, use, or operation of the automobile.

Uninsured Automobile applies when an insured dies or is injured by an uninsured automobile or an unidentified driver. There is also coverage for property damage caused by an identified uninsured automobile.

Accident Benefits coverage provides coverage for immediate expenses resulting from injuries arising out of the ownership, us or operation of an automobile.
Because Ontario is a no-fault insurance province, benefits are provided to an injured insured whether or not they are responsible for his injuries.

Direct Compensation for Property Damage provides coverage for damage to your car and any of your property inside the car, because of an automobile accident where you are not-at-fault.
